Being from NYC and all, back there out on lonk i-lan there's places with names like: West Hampton, South Hampton, Bridge Hampton, East Hampton, etc. If you summer there you say "I have a house / am going to the Hamptons for the weekend">

Now greater metro SLC has West Jordan, and South Jordan, and maybe other 'Jordans' too. How come people here never say they live in the "Jordans"?

Maybe they don't want to admit it? KIDDING! I don't know why it's not "The Jordans". Let's all start referring to it that way and see if we can start a trend!

That's because the "Hamptons" is synonymous with money. When people tell you they are going to the “Hamptons” for the weekend, they want you to know they are Wall Street big ticket investment brokers. If you don’t pick up on that clue, they will light a cigar with one of their slightly wrinkled 100s.

OK, OK, I know, not all folks who have a house in the Hamptons are rich and famous. The designations for Jordan are just a way of telling people where you live.

Haha this is awesome! I used to live in NY and understand where you are coming from. We also don't have villages or townships. We do have main streets, but Church street or Hudson (st/ave/dr/ln) doesn't exist in every city as far as I know.
