I currently live in the wet state of Washington. Although I'm tired of the rain, I love the green. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast and wonder if the brown of Utah may be a real shock to the system. I am considering the Mapleton/Spanish Fork area and am hoping the beautiful mountains will make up for the lack of green. Can anyone enlighten me as to outdoor activities within an hour or so of Mapleton? We're big hikers, campers and boaters. Also, any info on the schools in this area would be a big help as well.

Many Thanks!

Utah is the mecca of all things outside. Go to Utah.com and check out the attactions there. I would also look into making a trip to Moab, Zions, and the Mesa Verde area in CO.

Mapleton/Spanish Fork are beatiful areas but the great thing about utah is everything here is freeway. Depending what outdoor activity you do freeways and biways are not far from the salt lake valley. I myself, camp, hike, flyfish, and Mt bike in the summer, board, and ski in the winter.

I love Utah out doors, Lots of lakes ,green grass, trees and snow year round if you know where to look. It is 4x4 and ATV friendly, camping every where, fishing, swimming, water skiing and shooting / hunting. Of course if your a Environmental extremist you will not be welcome. Meaning if you wish to stop people from using the land like CA has done.

Default Let me save you thousands of dollars....

"If you CAN'T see Mt. Hood, it's raining..... If you CAN see Mt. Hood, it's ABOUT TO Rain!" - sums it up!

We, too, were wet in Washington but SO loved the trees! It's a hard thing to leave. Being afraid of having green withdrawl, we bypassed the Mountain States and went directly to North Carolina. We have a couple acres in the country lined with thick woods, and have an amazing view out our front door. Rolling hills, open space, Southern hospitality, trees and trees and trees..... HOWEVER..... we have now decided better to be where there's less trees, but a more comfortable climate. (We were sick of the NW rain, but this humidity is killing us!) So let me save you several thousand dollars..... go for the mountain states! We are now seriously considering Utah. I'll be listening closely to the replies to your question!

Good luck!

I used to live in Seattle and I remember every time I flew home, into SLC airport, I was appalled at all the brown! To be honest though, if you live close to the mountains, you won't feel the loss too much. My family is from Orem and so we are right next to Provo Canyon and that is gorgeous. It's a change to be sure, but doable. Good luck to you.
