My wife and I are planning to relocate to Utah from Ohio in the next month or so. Can anyone tell me about Tooele, and what the people are like. Also how long and how bad is the commute to SLC. I will be working at Moog Aircraft, west side of SLC. Real estate seems to be reasonable. What areas is the best to live in?

Your commute to the West side of Salt Lake should be relatively congestion-free. Should take about a half hour from Tooele. The only problem is the freeway can get a little dicey during winter storms, but lots of people do it. I also know there are some express park and ride busses, but I'm not sure if they would service your particular plant. You can check out www.rideuta.com

Hello! I commute from Tooele to the Sugarhouse area every single day and the drive is starting to drive me nuts! We had a bit of snow this morning and other drivers were acting like they were going to slide off the road at any moment. Just like any other area you have to be smart driving in snow. I'm from Minnesota myself and my biggest pet peeve with Utah are the drivers. I'm slowly getting used to the flow of the driving around here but most of it doesn't make sense.

I myself can't get out of Tooele fast enough. I am a young adult and the area just doesn't have the kind of entertainment, opportunities, and what not that the Salt Lake area has.

Please read my responses to other posts regarding interest in Tooele and surrounding areas. It's cheaper for a reason make the drive. Tooele County is a health hazard. If you don't care about your health then by all means live there. Do an internet search and check out all of the information regarding dugway and the hazardous waste incinerator leaks, governmental biological and radiation testing, and industrial pollution on a huge scale. I know a lot of people from there who love the area but if toxic waste isn't a good enough deterent I don't know what is.

I too plan are relocating to Tooele. I just purchased a home in stansbury Park (5-10 minutes North) and planned moving at the end of July but can't sell my out of state home therefore we won't be relocating for 1-3 years and need to rent it. I love it but some hate it. Housing costs are a little lower than salt lake and surrounding areas to the north and south. it was rated one of the largest growing cities in Utah last year. the housing market went up over 30% and is suspected to continue to rise. the drive is about 35 minutes to SLC from Stansbury and another 10-15 from Tooele depending on how far South you live. It is a little small but is growing rapidly and alot of companies are moving that way. The airport on the way to Salt Lake wich also makes it very conveniant if you travel alot. The community has yearly 4th of July parades, fireworks and rodeo. There is a large raceway which rumor has nascar may head there. BLM Land if you love to horseback ride. a community center with childs activity pool and another on the way west to grantsville. I wish it had more shopping being Walmart seems to be the only thing, but as I said it is growing wich makes it a little less expensive but very conveniant access to SLC

Tooele is a quiet little town with the convienience of the city only 30 miles away. If you like small towns you will like Tooele. It is still $50,000 cheaper to buy a home in Tooele. I have a house in the heart of Tooele if you are ever interested. The taxes are only $562 a year! If you live in Stansbury Park you are going to pay almost 3 times that. There is plenty of entertainment in Tooele you just have to have an imagination.

Default Latest on my move to Tooele

Well, my wife and I made the big move from Ohio to Tooele, Utah in May of this year. We found a nice home with the big "T" in our backyard. We have spent the summer here, 'really hot, over 100 deg for 2 weeks". And really enjoy the area. There is so much to see here. Neighbors are very very nice, and very accepting of us. We came from small town in Ohio, and Tooele is of equal size. So this was a good fit for us.
Lots of wind here, which helps on the hot days. Not much rain though. I've learned all about lawn sprinklers systems.
We will wait to see how the winter is. i'll keep you all updated.

This is a very snowy winter. This is our 3rd winter here and this is the snowiest it has ever been. But that is subject to opinion. On Thursday we got 2 feet of snow, the snowplow crews were quick to take care of the main roads and by afternoon had the residential streets plowed. We moved here from Colorado and with this much snow the cities in the Denver area would have shut down.

Default Air Quality in Tooele

We are relocating to the SLC area and are looking really heavily at Stansbury Park. What's the air quality like there. Is it far enough out of the SLC Valley that it doesn't get the inversions quite as bad? My children have asthma (not severe), and we'd like to keep them in the best air quality as possible.

Any takes?
