Am I saying the name right? I never been out west but I can tell you that I sick and tired of the high cost of living in the east. How's the job market out there? The area sounds nice and the people seem nice (enough) but what are some of the down sides of this area?

The name is St. George, but your on the right track. I don't know how much of a discount you will find it to be, since real estate has gone up a lot there in the last few years. A lot of people on this board complain about the lack of good-paying professional jobs.

Thanks, It's always good to hear from folks who live in the area then the always positive side that HGTV or The Travel Channel tries to portray.

St. George is growing like a weed ....people seem to like Utah... and the southwest corner Washington County "Little Dixie" where St. George is located is unique ....it has a much milder climate (in the winter that is) ...high temps in the mid-50's in DEC/JAN ....however the flip side is summer highs averaging over 100 degrees ...similiar to Las Vegas,NV with cooler nite time low's ....St. George is also near Zion National Park ...an amazing place and Nevada gambling at Mesquite ....I liked it alot when I was there a few years ago....

An example, cost of living posted by ACCRA is now higher than Denver, Phoenix, or SLC and my friend just graduated with a business degree and can't even apply for any jobs that require a degree (there aren't any in this hole). Skywest airlines (utah's highest ranking company on the fortune 1000) offered him a management position for less money that he makes as a grocery store grunt. Good luck if you move here, I hope you bring plenty of money and patience with the backwards people and lack of entertainment. Get used to driving the 1.5-2 hours to vegas for a break.
