I cannot say that I voted for Bob Bennett during any of his three terms. However, despite this I admit I have a certain soft spot in my heart for him.I met Bob several times during the last decade and once totally by chance in an elevator in the old ZCMI mall downtown. Bob was a gentleman and was willing to answer any question honestly put to him. Our impromptu meeting in the elevator caused me to approach him about a year later when he spoke at a convention I attended. I remember how touched I was when this man, much older than myself, addressed me as "sir". He also made it clear that even though we might be of different political parties there were certain bottomline convictions he held that mirrored my thinking on some issues. He clearly was a conservative, but not a reactionary. Bob truly felt that reasonable people could be on different places on the political spectrum.Bob was elected eighteen years ago when I think politics were more civil than they are today. His defeat at the hands of a bunch of delegates did more dishonor to them than it did to him. Whatever his "crimes" were he was entitled to at least face the voters of this state for a decision as to whether he could continue in public office.Senator Bennett, let me wish you a good retirement. At age 76, you have earned it.

Bob Bennett wasn't my favorite... but he looks a lot better than what they are replacing him with.

Wow-it is somewhat of a change and I agree with Belle and the others-the cure is worse than the disease as my Mom would say!

Meh.

Change is good. He was practically useless over the last four years.

Appreciate his service but it's time for someone new to give it a shot.

Agreed. And my dad was one of those delegates.

There's more to representing Utah than being able to talk to people. That's all fine and dandy that you had decent conversations with the guy... but when it comes down to doing his job that doesn't really mean a whole lot.

He was an incumbent, he was comfortable in his position, he hasn't done a whole lot to benefit the people of Utah in quite some time.
