I am a Unix Systems Administrator (Computer Geek who keeps high end computer servers running).

I landed a fairly good job in Utah, but wonder if that job went under, what is the likelihood of finding a replacement in that same field? Will be in the Salt Lake City area. I want to position myself between SLC and Provo as I assume both areas are the most likely candidates.

I checked dice, and in comparison with San Diego, the two areas don't seem to have huge differences in the market right this moment. But I have no clue on how many people in SLC are Senior computer guys who have my level of experience.

Just want to prep my wife that if something happened (company went out of business, bought out by a foreign company, whatever), if we will be forced to return to California or will there be a possibility of staying.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I think you'll do fine. There's a lot of IT jobs out here as you've noticed. Business is a big thing and there's tons of growth always occurring in the state. Ogden, especially around Hill Air Force Base, has a decent amount of tech jobs as well. With what you do, and your experience level, I think you'll be just fine. Anywhere.
