In a couple weeks i"m driving from LA to Colorado Spprings to see some family. I see that Richfield, UT is halfway from LA to Denver. Are there any cities in UT on the I-70 after Richfield that have motels/hotels? I'd like to drive more than halfway on my first day. I've read that closest hotels after Richfield are 100 miles away. Is this true? Can you help me out? Thanks..!

I would continue a couple of hours more and stop in Green River. Plenty of decent hotels there. Some older some newer.
Keep in mind that I-70, between I-15 and Green river is one of the longest stretches of US hiway without any services (not even cell phone service) nearby, unless you get off and visit the small towns here and there, so make sure you are fully gassed up before getting on I-70.
There is only one rest stop before Green River.

A bit after Richfield is the small town of Salina, and you could get off I-70 for a light dinner or something. If you are tired, you may find a an empty place in Salina, I think there is one motel close to the freeway on the left side, when you get off coming from the west
Otherwise, if it is still light enough, really nice vistas along I-70.
Just keep the speed limit .....

Another suggestion ..
Stay on I-15, and find a motel before the I-70 turn off, then leave very early to be able to get through the San Rafael Swell area (most of I-70 goes right through the middle of the Swell).
Good time to take pics and what not ...
Driving from LA, depending on how early you start, by the time you get to I-70, you may have driven about 10 hours or so ... ?

I highly recommend Green River Utah. It has a nice placeright on the river front there with a view, and a wonderful restaurant on site with home cooking. Been there done that. They even offer a free full breakfast cooked on site. Check this out.

I second the River Terrace, but I recommend eating at Ray's Tavern : Ray's Tavern, Green River, Utah - Ray's Tavern Restaurant Reviews - IgoUgo

It's kind of THE place to eat in Green River and is frequented by Jeep Enthusiasts, mountain bikers, and hikers going to and from Moab.

The place is a landmark.
