Hi —*

My family and I will be relocating to Vancouver, WA (Fishers Landing) this summer. I'm looking for preschool for my 4-year-old.

Preferably, play-based, minimum 4 hours each day, 4 or 5 days a week, and approximately 1:8 adult-student ratio.

--

I did search on Yelp, GreatSchools, and Google but didn't really find anything that seems to work.

We toured Goddard. The teachers didn't seem very caring. Maybe because we got there around lunch time, so the teachers/adults were mostly on their smartphones.

We toured Camas Montessori. Seems very excellent but on waitlist.

We also toured Lakeshore Montessori. Too far — likely can't make it in time to take my other kid to school.

--

We looked into some church-based preschools around the area since my 4-year-old currently attend a church-based preschool and the experience has been wonderful. However, it seems the church-based preschools in Vancouver exudes a much stronger sense of faith? I'm afraid we might not be a good fit since we're non-religious.

Harvest Community Church in Camas (prune hill, near Fisher Landing) had a pre-s for decades, not sure of current status. There are still many others within 5 miles, most do not require a 'faith' declaration.

Joyful learning preschool off 136th was great for us! Also, circle of friends was amazing. My kids have been to both! Not sure if they meet your time expectations, but both are excellent. Camas montessori is amazing too, out of our budget, but I have a lot friends who have kids go there and they love it. There is also Vancouver Montessori which I have heard good things about.

We only looked into preschool programs, not ones like Goodard school that also provide daycare, so I can't comment on that.

I will say that hands down Circle of Friends would be my first choice out of all of these, although they are all great choices. Circle of Friends has extra classes like dance or art you can add to the preschool time if you want. Both are kind of competitive to get into, both are in churches but NEITHER one cares if you are member of their church.

I don't know about Harvest Community Church preschool, but I do know they have a great indoor playground during the winter/rainy months.

Are you in Camas School district? Check out their preschool programs. Both are excellent and I would say Papermaker Preschool is the finest around. Teachers top notch.

We looked into Mill Plain United Methodist preschool, but it wasn't a good fit for us. I know many people have gone there and loved it.

Good luck!
