Hello!

Hoping somebody could give me some insight on how things work up there for outdoor worker (construction, etc) due to rain. My husband has been doing Architectural Sheet Metal for 10 years here in Southern California and we are thinking of moving up to the Vancouver, Wa area this next summer. Our only concern is if workers in this field get alot of days off due to the rain? Or is it something they work around/through? If anyone get give me some info i would really appreciate it.

Thanks!
Virginia

Construction workers (and everyone else) generally work yr round in this mild climate. (Our rain is typically drizzle, our cold is ~ 30-40F, NOT -20F). Since you are working on a structure there would be very few days that would interfere with your schedule to do outdoor work, and you could do indoor work on those days. Some folks who do 'ground-work' and underground excavation may have a few more days / yr off.

Buy some decent rain-gear and realize you are 'wash&wear' (And keep a pair of dry boots at home).

As a sidenote, it's funny to me when we had a week-long series of rain storms in the desert southwest, I had three service people call and cancel appointments because it was raining! ...a landscaper, an electrician who was going to work on some wiring outside, and a carpenter who was going to rebuild part of a deck. When they each finally did show up, I had to kid them that if workers in the northwest used that excuse, nothing would ever get done!

So no, about the only thing that isn't done in the rain in western Washington and Oregon is painting an outdoor structure.
