We are thinking of buying a home in La Center to retire. What are the pros and cons of living in that area? What is the driving time to Portland, also weather conditions in the winter.

La Center is a very small town, a bit off of I-5 to the east - depending on where in La Center you pick, you could be 5 minutes to 45 minutes from the freeway. Once on the freeway, it's probably 30-45 minutes to Portland in a very light traffic day. For rush-hour commuting purposes, it's double to triple that. The closest major shopping and medical centers would be the Salmon Creek area of Vancouver, probably 20 minutes or so south.
