You mean 117th and 99? I saw them clearing it yesterday. I'm guessing it's more commercial space. It isn't zoned residential. And they can't dig too far back or the houses up on the hill will come sliding down.

The nw took on a New York street system in the early 20th century mainly due to the success of this pattern there. It is worth noting that the original planners of Seattle wanted to create a New York of the west. And they still may...

Being from Boston and still getting lost even after 13 years, I will take the boring street names.

The numbering system works very well with straight streets in a grid but is really awkward here in many places. The street I live on starts as an Avenue, changes to a Street, and as it curves changes number three times. I live in one of only a few homes on the street with one street number while the others are different, and to be even more confusing the same street number is used miles away as it hits the same latitude on the grid.

Yeah, nice idea if you actually have a grid...but we don't. And street "names" are copied in the burbs leading to even more of a mess. Requires more info to convey a location, the nw/se etc prefix and a suffix. And even if you think you know where X Ave is, it can be split so it's not a continuous road and given 4 different names.

They are apparently building a new Brewery there. Trying to confirm what I heard second hand.
