I invited you to check out the "Open Camas Schools" Facebook group.
A few people in that group have posted insider information.
Among the tidbits have been the experience of the school district not focusing on getting schools open -at all- and not communicating with parents, how the district seems to be primarily focused on this "equity" garbage and ThoughtExchange excerpts from a teachers only ThoughtExchange from a few months ago. It really is eye opening and kind of chilling. One particular item was the vote several months back whether or not go back in person (for any # of days). That vote was 50% for and 50% against.
Funny how you don't dismiss any of the other stuff I have mentioned regarding why Camas Schools have gone into the gutter.
My advice to the original poster was that if you choose to live in the area, live outside the Camas School District property tax area. Unless you want your kid(s) to get sub-standard education and be lucky to ever get it in person, 5 days a week again, choose private schools in the area or home school. If you want to pay high property taxes for garbage indoctrination, then Camas and the Camas School District is for you.
Another "expert" getting their news from Facebook groups. Their brand of misinformation and confirmation bias is a large reason why this country is in the divided state that its in. Its pretty clear when a person posts with a particular agenda and is deaf to all reasonable conversation.
Ironically, our Camas friends who have been teaching in China for several years have been least disrupted by Covid. Teacher friends in The Netherlands and Denmark have also retained quite normal schedules.
Such a prime opportunity as a teachable moment, the USA lost far more than a traditional year to other countries which latched on and grew their students, staff, and edu systems to meet the challenges and opportunities.
Too bad, another lost chance to excel.
Stealth, while we not agree on all topics, this one I think you're right. Besides, if we agreed on everything, where's the fun in that?
How is that many nations kept Covid cases/death rates low while keeping businesses and schools open? That's the biggest question that no one in leadership is prepared to answer. Why? Because this was a national disgrace that cost us hundreds of thousands of lives. America leads in Covid cases and deaths. And we're still fumbling around a year later.

We moved here in 2012. In Van we found more affordable housing, no state income tax, and a comfortable suburban atmosphere. We are within a reasonable drive for visits to PDX family members.

Funny that just today I was remembering Camas friends kid's...(jr high age, all on their own, not school assignment...) At the first of pandemic they made spreadsheets and graphs of likely Worst places to be exposed to Covid. They had really dove deep into aerosol viral behavior. They had it nailed with the 15 min 'suspended droplets', air exchanges per cubic ft, how much lung capacity exchanged, which public spaces were highly vulnerable, cold air returns in public spaces...
Very impressive, I'm not sure they transcribed to an app, but they should have.
Their parents are scientists and engineer, but the kids did this all on their own.
I'm quite convinced our school age USA kids could have driven a very different outcome to Covid, given the free rein to do so. They had the available time, information, and incentive. (While their teachers were sitting on their thumbs wondering when we would return to normal).... 'Normal' really sux in the USA.
So sad... It need not be so!
Do your part, set a kid free. (To learn and contribute their knowledge and skills to the well-being of others)

Washington's Covid death rate since the pandemic began is 69 per 100,000. That is better than Germany (91 per 100,000) and most of the UK countries. And about equal to Canada at 61 per 100,000. And we are vaccinating at a faster rate than just about every country on the planet except Chile and Israel. Much of Europe is now going back into lockdown for a 3rd time and can't seem to get their vaccination programs going.
We are actually doing pretty good by worldwide standards here in Washington. It is the rest of the country that dropped the ball.
And as for Camas schools? They just announced today that they are going to full time 4-day a week in-person classes at the middle schools and high schools starting after spring break. This is in response to Jay Inslee reducing the social distancing limits from 6ft to 3ft in all K-12 schools. They are still keeping Wed as a teacher tutorial day for all students still doing online remote learning.

And... I (highly susceptible) still cannot get a vaccine appt (nor can many of my elderly neighbors). I did note that 2 days after I left WA, there were presumably openings at a couple pharmacies. I won't return for a couple months. Friends in TX and WY have driven over 4 hrs find appts. (That's risky).
Today's news... Biden admin is gonna be stuck with 100s of millions of unused vaccines, while much of the world goes without. (Very high risk for some nations, and their economy and HC System). USA cannot figure out how to get vaccine into arms, nor will they ever. Just let Chick fil A take care of it....
I'm fine going without if there is a legitimate higher need (which I don't consider all USA teens as vulnerable). Better to serve the needy of the world than self. (I'm aged, so I'm expendable, no issue to me if it saves others at higher risk).
Today I was noting the bold Texas STRONG and their very proud " y' all ain't gonna see me in a mask". It's not a definitive solution, but when comparing similar population (but high density / risk of spread) size Taiwan (0.4 deaths / m) to Texas (1662+deaths / million). I have to question our USA superior HC.
Basically every person I meet in Texas, extends my quarantine requirement by at least 14 days.
Huge motorcycle rally this weekend in Bandera. All hotels and cafes and bars totally jammed.
Remember Sturgis!
SD did not fare so well.
I envy good friends in NZ, AU, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, China.... Wish I were there with them. I might have a chance of seeing 2022.

Reportedly the pharmacies in Washougal have had lots of openings in the past week. And if you are a Kaiser member they have had a lot of openings. I had no trouble scheduling mine through Kaiser. So it does seem to be loosening up to some extent.
The US is doing better than all but about 4 other countries (Israel, Chile, UAE, and UK) in terms of vaccination rate and total vaccines administered. It isn't all doom and gloom.

The highest utilization of available vaccines in USA is 82%, a very weak B grade for academia, and not even on the radar for those of us who must perform by 6 sigma, or we're without a job. (Which would be interesting for medical community to consider). My current location is 66%, that's 34% into the dumpster and not able to schedule an appointment. Subsequently = many future unnecessary deaths here and abroad.
I tried Kaiser again yesterday, and was informed I must use Clark County public health. Real helpful being 2000 miles away. I'll be near 4 Kaiser facilities in Colorado next week. That would have been handy. Then near CA Kaiser's long before I reappear in WA. So goes the USA response (?) to Covid.
Schools, medical.... You definitely don't get what you pay for. Excuses and blaming? Yup, they excel at that skill! Pro's no doubt.

All you had to do in Clark Co was to show up at the Fairgrounds when they were giving vaxes! We could not get a second appointment, so we just went and we got our second shots anyway. The first time, DH got an appointment, and I went with him. They gave me a shot with no questions asked. The scheduling software was a joke—a very bad joke.

And a drive to Fairgrounds is nearly an hour, so just per chance there was an opening was not in my daily schedule when only home for a couple days and a farm to care for. (public was instructed to NOT show up w/o an appointment, and likely you would have not allowed to enter w/o DH scheduled appt)
24x7 would have been a desirable Vax solution,I could have easily shown up at a Kaiser / Vax clinic at 3AM. No traffic / no crowds and medical care centers are open 24x7. Same with libraries... social distance? Covid 24hr opening would have been a great public service for those of us who do not have internet access at home. Libraries (and schools and medical clinics) have lights... Why in the world would they only be open reduced hours (Library 10-2 M-F in my current location). Let's see... target user is students and public who need access to information, BUT public is working 10-2 and school is in session during that time (since Sept). We're so smart and effective... Who's thinking?
