I am going to be moving for a new part time job in Hillsboro and I want to live in WA for income tax purposes. Downtown seems to be the best bet based on my like for 1920s style bungalow housing and proximity to commute (vs other local Vancouver areas.) I don't have to commute during normal commute hours.

I'm a single male with two dogs so I am not so concerned with schools and, to a moderate degree, urban crime.

Any comments? Am I being naive about the extent of urban crime in Vancouver? I am used to living in San Francisco and the East Bay SF Bay Area and the City Data crime indices are lower in Vancouver. I am most likely going to rent for a year or so.

Thanks for your opinions, Mark

You're still going to have to pay income tax to Oregon if you work in Oregon. Otherwise, yes, the Uptown Village area downtown would probably be perfect for you.

Even in off hours it is a long commute, with several annoying bottlenecks - and that's before the projected I-5 bridge rebuild (should that happen any time soon).

Be very sure that it makes sense, tax-wise, too - Oregon taxes most income earned in the state and (it's been a few years since I filed out-of-state) I believe they set the rate at your total federal return, not just the Oregon-earned part.

Yeah, live in WA and work from home. Any income that requires you to physically WORK in OR Will be taxed by OR.

There is really only one way to get to Hillsboro...(in all practicality), Hwy 26. (very busy).
'Off traffic commute' from Downtown to Downtown will be 40-45 min. 30min on a very good day or between midnight and 4 AM (+ No bridge lifts (I-5), no construction, or accidents)
