Yes, Vancouver real estate is quite pricey (and that's probably an understatement, I understand). Looks like there are 2 developments in Downtown Vancouver that are trying to bring more affordable housing to Vancouver: 226 square foot microlofts and 60 W. Cordova.

Microlofts as indicated in the Globe and Mail

60 W. Cordova (http://www.60wcordova.com/index.php - broken link) - available to those currently living/working in the DTES

Personally, I don't fit the lifestyle required to live in either development. Not to say I wouldn't live in a microloft - I would, if I used my home as just a place to put my head down.
