We have three nights and two full days. We're thinking Victoria due to our interest in Buchart Gardens. Both cities appear to have lots of interesting bars and restaurants (food and drink are very important to us).

We're not into art but do like history museums.

Suggestions?

If you only have 2 full days then stick to visiting Victoria since it is the smaller of the two cities. Vancouver needs a few days longer to do it justice. There is plenty of great things to see and do to fill 2 days in Victoria including great dining experiences, and you will most certainly enjoy Buchart Gardens.

What time of year are you planning on making your visit?

Victoria is definitely more interesting from a tourism standpoint. The number of really good quality restaurants in Vic per capita is quite possibly the highest in Canada. Vancouver is more for if you want to see a city for its architecture and planning.

With your limited time, Victoria.

Be sure to go to the Royal BC Museum.

Besides their " current " exhibitions, they do a great job on the history of the area.

Also, if interested a tour of the Legislative Assembly, or Parliament Buildings. It's free and interesting IMO

I don't know if you had a hotel in mind, there are a lot of nice ones in Victoria, but if you are looking for a more intimate experience with amazing breakfast's included, I like https://www.abigailshotel.com their main page may take a second to load with the moving image.

I am not affiliated with the hotel in any way. It does not have an elevator. We stayed in the main house, as opposed to the coach house, so can't comment on the coach house.

Vancouver being much larger than Victoria does have more to do, and has more striking vistas of skyscrapers and mountains than Victoria, but it needs more than two nights, so you'll just have to come back

Do you have any restaurant recommendations? We will be staying near the Fairmont.

I personally enjoy Rebar for West Coast vegetarian fare.
