Hey,

I'm a 23 year old female in need of lots and lots of advice. My boyfriend has just got a job as a physiotherapist in Vancouver, and I have taken the scary plunge and decided to move with him!

We are hoping to be all moved by December this year and just wanted any advice that you guys could offer.

I currently work as a researcher for a large television production company in the UK. Does anyone know what the television industry is like in Vancouver, are jobs rife or not so much? If working in Tv isn't an option, I would also consider working anywhere basically! Does anyone know whether it's hard to find a job, not being a native?

We could also do with some advice as to our living situation. There is so much information online that it's starting to boggle my brain! Where would you recommend living as a young couple? Would finding a fully furnished flat be hard to find. What is the average rental price.

I would basically just really really appreciate any help or advice that anyone can offer, I'm finding it all very scary and some friendly advice would be great!

Thanks

Vancouver is hosting the winter Olympics in early 2010; rental accommodation may be hard to find.

More importantly, though, is how you plan to move to legally Canada.

You don't mention whether your boyfriend is a Canadian or will be entering Canada on a work visa, but, either way, I don't believe your status as girlfriend qualifies you enter on his paperwork.

I think the first place you should start is the Citizenship and Immigration Canada web site to determine if you can qualify to enter the country legally.

No one suggested you were, but you didn't mention that you'd started the visa process and many folks seem to think all one has to do is show up with suitcase in hand.

I have recently made the move from Australia with my Giirlfriend. Jobs are hard to come by at the moment....

West Van is nicer but more expensive. East side is cheaper but more working class and mainly immigrants. We found a nice place in East Van for 900 per month. Includes everything, but unfurnished.

We got a cheap car, reliable and on the road for under 5K. Before you leave your home country make sure to get a letter from your insurance company stating your no claims. You can get a 5% discount for every year insured up to a max of 40%...This can save you thousands!!!! dont neglect this otherwise its very expensive.

Craigslist is your friend! We found a car, house and furniture which set ourselves up nicely in no time at all.

goodluck!
