How often do you get food pointed out that "you can't have"? People are constantly telling me "but oh wait, you can't have that because it has ______". They seem to be doing this to me all the time! I know what I can and can't have and it's getting really annoying. Earlier, I was visiting my mom and she had it on the Food Network and she was saying how things looked good but then said "But wait, you can't have that. It's made with all of the things you won't eat." If it only happened here and there it wouldn't be so annoying but I seem to get it everyday from somebody. Do you guys get this a lot?

I do, and it's always from family. Oh, "Malika doesn't eat that" and I reply, "sure don't & that's exactly why I don't have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, clogged arteries or fat people syndrome." Not that I'm saying if your not a vegan that your unhealthy or have any of those health conditions it's just what I say to MY family members that like to pick on me & it shuts them up lol!

I can have vegan alternatives to meat, eggs, and dairy. Sure, they cost a bit more, BUT, heart attacks are more expensive. I buy vegan cheese, and veggie burgers. I don't miss meat, eggs, or animal dairy. Soy whip and almond ice cream suit me fine. I stopped listening to critics long ago.

I get that from my family all the time, about all kinds of things. "Oh Anon darling, have a hot fudge sundae. Oh wait, you can't, you're trying to watch your weight." "Hey Sis, come over for a big huge feast! Oh sorry, you can't, that's right, you're trying to watch your weight." "Let's go to that buffet restaurant for dinner, my treat! Oh - never mind, I keep forgetting, you don't pile up several pounds of food on a plate and stuff it down your throat just because it's all you can eat for $9.95."

I usually just roll my eyes when they do that. They're the ones taking blood pressure meds, and high cholesteral meds, and can barely walk because their backs are aching from having to carry around all that loose flab.

In summary, it doesn't really have anything to do with you being vegetarian. It has everything to do with people who are insecure with their own choices in life, trying to justify those choices by deriding your choices.

That sucks that you and anyone has to go through the little comments like that.

How can you expect NOT to get that from people? Humans have been hunters and carnivorous since the dawn of mankind. Your choice to be vegan is going to come with ridicule. I have no problems with anyone chosing to be vegan, to eachs own, but you have to realize the majority does not understand it. I do understand it therefore I respect it, but my teeth are made for meat! Cheers. Ps- you guys do make a hell of a non dairy shake though.

Not often at all. I know what I eat and my friends do too. If I am at a restaurant I ask if something disgusting is in there.

All in all, I call the shots.
