Well, I tried the plant based protein last night, and it was a bit better than I was expecting. It was a ground beef flavor and I used it on wraps.

I've used Beyond Meat products a few times over the years. The beef crumbles I used for tacos, but I really like the ch*ckn strips. I stir fry those with bell pepper strips, onion, diced tomato, mushroom, all over rice or millet. However, I need to limit my soy intake due to thyroid issues, so don't eat this product often. If I remember though, the beef crumbles are soy free?

My partner likes this product also (he is an omni but eats mostly vegetarian at home).

I tried this for the first time a few months ago and at first the 'grilled' flavor was a bit off putting.

But after a while, I came to appreciate the way they made the texture and appearance very similar to meat.

They serve it at a vegan food chain near where I live, Veggie Grill, and it's delicious with all the fixings.

I have no problems with cravings for meat, so it's something I like to eat from time to time just to enjoy the taste.

The good news is the brand will be expanding nationwide in TGI restaurants early next year.

My biggest complaint about the burgers is the smell. The house still reeks the next day.

I'm not sure why people even bother with fake meats. Why not just make your chili with beans (for example), and skip the fake meats altogether?

A lot of people who are making the transition to meatless, or are even just trying to give up eating meat a few days a week, can use them to make the change easier. My coworker who is working toward being vegan has said these have helped her most of with cravings.

Also, I am pretty confident that a good majority of veg*ans are that way for reasons other than they don't like the taste of meat. Many were brought up eating burgers or whatever other types of meat, and just because they want no part of the killing or cruelty, doesn't mean they can just automatically hate the taste.

And, dining out can be a challenge, so knowing a place offers "meat" like this gives an option.

I know people expect to make an easier transition with fake meats, but considering the taste and texture of those overprocessed foods, heck, I think it's a way of putting someone off veg*nism for all time!

I like some of the imitation meats, so when I want more than beans (texture) I use it. Not often because it is very processed.

Because we like the taste and texture of meat but don't want to support animal cruelty?

The longer I'm vegan, the more I'm grossed out by the idea of eating meat, so I can't even imagine eating fake meat. You can make veggie patties out of beans, etc., if you just want to bite into something with some substance. Or a falafel, etc.
