Being single and in your 20's is tough and all the action is in LA You best bet is look around Northridge nice area near Cal State University Northridge since you young it won't be a problem and its 20 minutes (more or less depending of the time of day)to Thousand Oaks.

Sherman Oaks is also a nice area. Its at the cross roads of the San Diego (I-405) Fwy and the Ventura Fwy(US-101) Horrific traffic but since you working in Thousand Oaks you don't have to deal with the East bound crowd on the freeway heading for Downtown LA, Hollywood or the Glendale-Burbank-Pasadena (tri-cities area) during the morning commute There some bars, restaurants in the area.

North Hollywood is east of Sherman Oaks and will add 20 extra minutes to the commute, but the area has some bars, restaurants, nightclubs its near Universal City with City Walk entertainment complex and the adjacent Theme park and studio.

Of course there Santa Monica is the happening place. Traffic to Thousand Oaks is fun(NOT!!!) Dealing with traffic on the San Diego Fwy and the Santa Monica Fwy (I-10) is BAD News. Plus you may need a room mate Santa Monica is Very Expensive place to live. But if you want the excitement this is it.

I hope this helps.
