Pretty much everywhere is safe. The townhouses I live in are leased at $2000-$3000 monthly. I'm not sure if that is average or not. Lovely place to raise a kidling.

I'm not at all convinced of TO's overall safety, especially in rental areas. My car was broken into within 2 days of moving in. I've looked online and I'm not the only one.

How many places are safer within 100 miles? Simi maybe, Mission Viejo maybe. Anywhere else?

Significantly safer? I doubt it.

thanks for the quick responses and ive looked through craigslist and it seems oxnard has the cheapest rent for a 3 bedroom so far. i really dont want to have to commute using 101 since i heard traffic can get really bad, but if i have to i gotta. how bad does it get exactly? if i were to commute from oxnard to work in thousand oaks at 6-7pm and thousand oaks back to oxnard at 7-8 am, how long would it take?

and a quick question: i'll be taking an RN position at los robles hospital, will my income be good enough for ventura county?

In all fairness you left your car unlocked. Thousand Oaks is one of the safest places to live in the nation but it is in the real word where crimes of opportunity can happen. They just happen less here than most other places of it's size.

I don't think it would take more than 20-30 minutes depending on where in Oxnard. Oxnard is dicey. They have the cheapest rent for a reason. There's not too many parts of it I would want to live in. I don't know what nurses make so I can't help you there.

exactly, Thousand Oaks is safe in relation to the surrounding areas -- LA and Oxnard. I hear people quote that it's one of the safest places in the country often and I think that is greatly skewed somehow. It's not. It's just safer than other places nearby.
