Can you tell me what tech companies are best to work for (Senior level 30+ years experience as an Electrical Engineer/software/hardware) in the Simi Valley and surrounding areas (Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Calabasas, Northridge etc), both LA and Ventura counties? Looking for a stable company who pays well and is well respected by employees. I would be relocating from the east coast so they have to be able to pay relocation expenses. Thanks!

What about the US government? The local bases here at Port Hueneme and Point Mugu hire engineers. Might be something to think about.

As far as tech companies, there is Amgen although they are a biotech, I imagine they have some EE positions available. I just checked their website and saw some software positions available.

If you are interested in Unmanned Aerial Systems, there is a company in Simi Valley (AeroVironment) that has been in the news lately...might want to check them out.

The firm I work for always seems to have EE positions available and they have a lot of difficulty finding folks to fill the spots.

I recently hired a SW engineer with specific skillsets and had to use a retained recruiter (not the fly-by-night types) to find someone with the requisite skills and experience. This is for a job paying well north of $100k.

If you have a security clearance (or have no issues getting cleared) and some applied experience (industry- or device-specific) you're even more valuable.

There are quite a few defense engineering companies in the west San Fernando Valley and Conejo Valley. Check indeed.com with some word searches for your niche and I'm sure you'll find pages of jobs.

A "tech" job in a non-tech company is going to be a lot different than a "tech" job in a tech oriented company, the former are largely mundane jobs. There aren't many tech companies, let alone innovative ones, in this area.

I don't see the logic in relocating to this area for that type of work unless of course there is some other reason to do so....

Why just Thousand Oaks/Simi Valley? The best companies are those that will offer you a job. After that, you can get selective. Mightn't you first contact several companies and then make a decision based on your personal criteria?

There are a lot of engineers out of work in Ventura County. I think you will find very few companies willing or needing to pay relocation to someone coming from out of state. I worked for several electonics companies in the area. Only one of those is still there, Zebra Technologies (was in Camarillo now in Westlake). Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley use to be a great place for finding work in the Engineering field. Unforunately, many companies have left the state or just gone out of business.

Best of luck to you on your search.

This is a correct statement, far more work up there than Ventura County. Glad I no longer have to find a job in that field there.
