Does anyone hunt here in VC? If so, where?

I'm a diehard fisherman but a beginner hunter.

Many people hunt in the backcountry behind Ojai. There is the Los Padres National Forest and lots of BLM land out there. Just promise not to shoot in the campgrounds. Drunken hunters have ruined many of our family camping trips. There are some fun places to fish out there too.

Do I need a permit from the forest service to hunt there?

Yes you need permits, and an adventure pass. An adventure pass is only $5.

Really? Our adventure/offroad passes are a lot more than that. The BLM /Forest passes are free. They just need to know who is in there if a fire. Better hurry, some seasons have already started.

The $5 is for a one day pass. An annual pass is $30 I think.

Stick to fishing! lol.
The serious hunters go to Kern County (lake isabella area). They hunt bear, etc. Always need permits and licenses. Hunting talk is normal there. But yeah, I agree with garden gal - promise to behave yourself!
