I used to drive Thousand Oaks to Huntington Beach (for about six months). Seventy two miles one way - took 65 minutes - because I left at 5AM. I'd quit around noon and it was maybe 1:20 back and I'd telecommute for two hours from home. (Plus, since I was on loaned labor from my company, I got $50/day for gas - which helped even though I drove a F-150 4WD Supercab.)

So, to answer your question, if you have to live & work in these places then do a 6-230 and have the rest of the day free. If you don't own a home and aren't otherwise tied to Westlake Village, the consensus of these threads is that you try to live closer to where you work.

Thank you all. It seems the combined conclusions is go leave at 5 a.m. to arrive at 6 a.m., and depart work for the trip home at 2:30 p.m. Go in using the 101, to the 405, (to the 10?), and return using Beverly Glenn. I intend to try it and appreciate your input and any further thoughts.

You are lucky to be able to flex your hours. It is the only way to commute.

I'm thinking of moving from Redondo Beach to Westlake Village, but I work in East Los Angeles. I own my own business and can get there or leave whatever time. If I get on the 101 towards LA at 6 am do you think I'll arrive in LA about 7? I would like to leave LA for Westlake about 2 or 2:30pm. Are these times possible without being stuck on the freeway for about 2 hours?

According to Google maps, this drive will take you about an hour and a half to an hour and 50 minutes in traffic.

You'll need to leave before 6 am if you really want to save time. I would suggest leaving around 5-5:30 am and heading home either mid-afternoon or not until 7-8 pm.

Depending on exactly where you are, that's about a 45 mile one-way trip. Even at an average speed of 60 mph, that's going to be 45 minutes each way. That's assuming no traffic.

If you left at 5 am you should be able to do it in under an hour. In the afternoon I would plan on an hour to an hour and a half.

Thanks for all your help guys!!! A review after a week of commuting to Beverly Hills from Thousand Oaks. I have adjusted my schedule and leave between 6AM and 6:15AM. So it takes me about 45 to 65 minutes to Beverly Hills depending on random variables and exactly when I leave. I usually take 101S to 405S to Sunset if it's 6AM, but take Beverly Glen if it's later. Coming back to TO I usually take Benedict up to Mullholand, over the 405, and then up to the 101N.

6:00AM 45-60 Minutes
6:30AM 60-80 Minutes
7:00AM 80+ Minutes
