I'm 63 yrs old moving from NJ to either Ojai, where I have family, or Ventura. Can afford a small condo. Now working part time in Sports Marketing. Since My income has been cut nearly in half due to lay offs and lost my medical insurance. I have had pretty good experiences with a Local Community Medical Clinic in my NJ area. I was reviewing the community clinics in the Ventura area. I am trying to get an opinion on where I should look once I make my landing in Ventura County. Currently I have a good sliding scale on office visits and dental. Income breaks from $15,000 to 29,000 and a higher visit cost from $30,000 to $49,000, this also depends on how dependents you may have. Anyone familiar with the good clinics and maybe the sliding scale cost?

Do you think you will be a net producer or net consumer of government services?

The clinic I was involved with was 80% privately founded. Tell me what was your experience as a net gov. consumer?

The Ventura County Medical Center and clinic systems are well regarded. There is not an Ojai clinic branch. They have sliding scale prices. The main complaint is long waits (weeks, months) for appointments, especially for specialties, and you'd better never not show up for one, as you go back to the end of the line.

I can't speak about the cost as I have health insurance. But so far the health care I have received in this area has been the best of any place I've ever lived. I did have to go the ER last year at the County Hospital and I felt well cared for there as well. I had to go to a emergency clinic once in Ventura (should have gone straight to the hospital) and that was my only bad experience so far. I can't recall what it was called but it was private and over by Victoria Ave area. I wouldnt go back to that place and would rather pay the price of the ER visit.

They were under investigation this year for Medi-Cal "issues."
