Hello, Moving to Oxnard on a travel nursing assignment (12 weeks) and was wondering about the area. We are looking for short term rentals. It seems like there are a lot of cheap 1 bedrooms right on the beach along the South side of the city Silverstrand etc. Anyone have any feedback on this area? Is there a reason it seems a little cheaper than the rest of the city?

Are there any other neighborhoods in the area I should look at or stay away from? We'd like to be not too far from the city.

Silverstand is not exactly what we would all call South Oxnard. Yes it is in the Southern part of the area. The deal is though that Silverstrand and Hollywood Beach are not part of the City of Oxnard. The beach areas, although near the city are seperated from the city. Silverstand Beach is at the end of Victoria with the Navy Base east of it. Hollywood Beach is on the other side of Oxnard Harbor. The only true Beach in the City of Oxnard is Oxnard Shores, or what many people have started calling Mandalay Shores. The city even changed the name for a while to Mandalay shores. Now I think it is called Mandalay Shores, an Oxnard Shores Community. Just a note, everything at Silverstrand is right on the beach. The homes you want are Ocean Front. Most of the homes are on streets that head toward the ocean. It is those ocean front homes that can block your view though. Many people may have a granny flat that they may want to rent short time.
As far as being not too far from the city, I live maybe 3 miles from the ocean, close to Oxnard , or should I say Mandalay Shores LOL. The beaches are not too far from anything within the city. Silverstand is probably closer to the city of Port Hueneme (Wy Ne Me) (Or Why Knee Me) Oxnard surrounds Port Hueneme on the East and North side, with the city wrapping around the Navy base and with the Pacific on the South Side of Port Hueneme.

I live in Mandalay Shores at the beach and would suggest staying in this area as opposed to Silverstrand/Hollywood Beach (which is just down the road, but seems to be more crowded). It would be nice to stay there for a 12 week assignment, though, I suppose. I just wouldn't purchase a house there. There is a lot available and the area is full of rentals, so that may be part of the reason for the lower rent. It's not far from the city of Oxnard at all and definitely close to shopping/dining/etc. I'm maybe 5 minutes from the main part of the city and the hospital is maybe 7-10 away in traffic.

Mandalay/oxnard shores/hollywood beach = nice

silver strand = localism, some not so nice people, more isolated

go for hollywood beach/channel islands harbor/oxnard shores/mandaly beach or ventura areas.

silver strand and hollywood beach are not the same place. silver strand is on the opposite side of the harbor, borders the navy base and is isolated from the rest of the area.

hollywood beach is opposite the channel islands marina and is quite nice. Crowded? not any more than other beach areas. the beaches are quiet and beautiful.
