Thank you again for the great info again! We actually toured Pismo/SLO/Arroyo areas this weekend and while it was gorgeous and the people were fantastic, we are now convinced that Goleta and/or Santa Barbara is likely best for my husband's job (commute specifically with bulk of business there instead of SLO) but also for our family and the activities and infrastructure we think we'll enjoy being around the most. Lompoc and Solvang are gorgeous but I think too quiet for our everyday life and will be a place to visit. So the hunt continues. Anyone with advice on best family friendly neighborhoods/streets/schools in SB or Goleta? Heading back up there to work with a realtor in 2 weeks, who I'm sure will tell us more, but curious if anyone can share recent experiences. We understand more $ for rental and mortgage but we see long term value in these areas for us. Thanks!

PS - for others reading and needing similar info on Arroyo Grande- We went to Cypress Ridge and it was awesome! Cypress Ridge used to be retirees and stale (according to our realtor) but has changed greatly in recent years. It was fantastic and a mix of young families, working professionals and retirees. It is a bit out of the way in regards to infrastructure but beautiful, very safe and a nice newer master community.

Fantastic ! I was looking around & figured that Santa Barbara vicinity is the top notch place for yall to raise a family. Zillow is your friend. Purple is rentals, Goleta / UC Santa Barbara more affordable...
Santa Barbara, CA Real Estate & Homes For Sale - 303 Homes | Zillow

The area is more like UC SD - La Jolla
Don't to forget to use the city-data.com to drop in the zip codes in the area for the neighborhood statistics
- Santa Barbara ZIPs 93101 to 93190; Goleta... San Marcos... Carperteria ... (find the home 1st then drop in the zip)

Just in case the OP hasn't moved yet or anyone new comes along looking for the same information, Orcutt is a good choice. It's between Lompoc and Santa Maria and easy to jump on the highway from to go in either direction. Good schools and nice little town. If you want to go further north, I like Arroyo Grande.
