LOL, Worse than the Conejo Valley but not as bad as LA.

Not sure if that helps of not.

Here are some old stories:

Safe Cities In America - Business Insider
"16. Oxnard, Calif. has a murder rate 5% below average; rape rate 85% below average; and robbery rate 32% above average."

Oxnard
"A 4.8 percent increase in serious crime last year in Oxnard was driven mainly by jumps in aggravated assaults, auto thefts and larceny, according to an analysis of statistics"

In the story it was noted that a large increase of aggravated assaults were from acquaintances and domestic violence situations, where for the most part alcohol and or drugs were involved. Realize also that many of these same people are repeat offenders. In 2015 there were 502 aggravated assaults. Not sure about 2016 numbers yet.

Here are my thoughts on this. Oxnard has had an increase in crime since 2014. Not all parts of the city have felt the crime. Statistics show that Oxnard is still a safe city for its size. What has changed though is a Mayor that seems to be soft on crime. The city had a change in Police Chiefs and will again as we have an interim Police chief if I remember correctly. From what I have heard we need more officers on the streets.

I would like to say that my neighborhood has not been effected by this. Last month we had a 17 year old kid get shot five times as he was walking with his girlfriend. Rumor is that he and some guys had a few words at a gas station a few blocks from our home. Him and his girlfriend were walking away and the guys went looking for him. They found him walking on at the end of our block on a connecting street. He was shot in the leg and lived. Still that is a little bit too close to home. We always like to say that we live in North Oxnard and that stuff does not happen here. It happens in South Oxnard. I guess it happens everywhere.
