The protester girl who was once a normal person but then turned into a hippie girl who does porn for a hairy fetish site and who got punched in the face up at Berkeley was from Thousand Oaks. I thought Thousand Oaks was fairly conservative -- is it still?

What White Supremacists?! What are you talking about?! I just asked about the politics of Thousand Oaks. Perhaps you misread my original post.

Should have put this question in the "Ventura" Forum....but.....

Thousand Oaks is predominantly Republican in voter registration, but they have elected Democrats to the council and the state legislature from that area.

Most Republicans in Thousand Oaks are the type that are fiscally conservative but moderate-to-liberal on every other issue. You won't find the ignorant, Bible-thumping conservative types in too high a number when compared to other parts of the country.

Simi Valley is Thousand Oak's northern neighbor and it is a somewhat different story. It seems to have more far-right conservatives.

She and her ilk invaded that demonstration with the express intent of causing physical harm to others. And then she walked into a scrum, only to find she had bitten off more than she could chew. There are also reports that she was pepper spraying people prior to that point.

Women want equality - well, that punch in the face is exactly what equality feels like.

To answer the question---it's hard to separate TO stats from the County, but every year both get more and more blue. News clip re Ventura County:

"One change is obvious. More than 41 percent of registered voters in the county are Democrats, compared to 32 percent who are Republicans. When George W. Bush was elected in 2000 and then re-elected four years later, there were more Republican registered voters than Democrats."

"We were sort of the oddball in California," California Lutheran University political scientist Herb Gooch said of being a red county in a blue state. "We've sort of caught up with California trends."

Clinton vote may show Ventura County is less angry

A woman I dated from Westlake back in the early 80s who was from the typical old school Chandlerian, Western LA burbs, GOP background (her dad was a local stalwart) now shows up as a Dem on Mylife.

I can only imagine subsequent generations have drifted even more to the Left.

Simi (that's sim-MEE!) was always known as the cop dormitory. And of course, there's the Reagan Complex standing guard over the 118.

As another posted mentioned up-thread, residents of Thousand Oaks, consistent with other high-income suburban communities in California with high concentrations of white non-Hispanic residents, tend to be fiscally conservative and moderate-to-liberal on social issues.

For example, many residents of these communities are supportive of the 2nd Amendment and the death penalty, but also supportive of environmental regulation, same-sex marriage and a woman's right-to-choose, even though they may not personally agree with abortion due to their religious beliefs. Most are anti-illegal immigration and very vocal in their opposition, probably because California has been dealing with the adverse effects of illegal immigration for a much longer amount of time than other states.

Additionally, it should be noted that most people in these types of communities seem to be professed Christians and regularly attend worship services, mostly Protestant Christian in nature. People are also very patriotic, and usually listen to country music.

Relative to major California cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, I find residents of suburban communities such as Thousand Oaks to have a more average American look with less in the way of odd piercings, visible tattoos, multi-colored hair, etc.

Thousand Oaks is one of my favorite suburban communities in California. Honestly, you can't go wrong.

You can find tattoos and to a lesser extent multi colored hair and piercings in Thousand Oaks, though. It is part of Southern California and is still in the cultural sphere of Los Angeles, more than anywhere else in Ventura County. Those things have entered the general culture of Southern California, and can be found even in conservative areas.

Also, Thousand Oaks has gotten an influx of West LA residents for awhile (including Congresswoman Brownley whose district includes most of Ventura County). They bring their values, although TO remains slightly right of center. There's still too much conservatism for TO to fully swing to the left, but nowadays it's in the middle.
