I'm just curious...

Everyday I check SigAlert, and no matter what time of day, the 23 is always "red". Anyone know why? Is there always traffic there for some reason or is the website wrong.

Default Well, yes.

The 23 is almost always a high-traffic area. Wasn't always that way. Several years ago when they finished the connector between the 23 and the 118 is when it started getting thick. Also, new communities are cropping up all over the Moorpark area, and people use the 23 to commute. Try at about 3:00 am. You'll have better luck.

most of the 23 is only 2 lanes, so that doesn't help

For the most part, the 23 from 118 to 101 is six lanes, three in each direction. It is two lanes (one in each direction) from Westlake Village to the beach and from Moorpark to Fillmore. Several months ago, the added lanes and wider bridges were completed. It seemed much better than before.

Highway 23 is in high demand. The area south from Moorpark, served by the freeway portion of Hwy 23, is also heavily car based. Very little public transportation. The cities of Moorpark and Thousand Oaks both have transit agencies, but they're really nothing more than shallow token efforts that fall way, way short of providing even minimal usable service. Moreover, both cities lack the public policy ambition for enhanced transit. Politicians in Moorpark have publicly stated their distaste for it (even mocking those who disagree) and relegated any such efforts to the "waste-of-time" department. So, car-and-driver rule the day on the 23 corridor.

Checking Sigalert right now 12:20 am... The 23 between the 126 and 118 is dark red and yellow. How is it THAT busy...? Sorry, but this is just crazy to me.
haha
