Ugh. I worked in Chatsworth for several years and I would not recommend it to anyone (unless they wanted to live right next to their job). It has a couple of good restaurants and it is on the Metrolink route but there really isn't any great nightlife and you won't be meeting hip young people there. Rocky Peak Park is okay though.

I'd suggest going closer to Ventura Blvd. or Porter Ranch.

I'd go with Sherman Oaks or Studio City. Best places (by far) in the Valley for someone single and mid-30's. It should cut your commute time in half.

Yeah, I agree Calabasas would be VERY BORING for you. Trust me I grew up in that area. Go with Studio City or Sherman Oaks!

To follow up on my post on Stuidio City and Sherman Oaks:

Studio City has more nightlife options than Sherman Oaks. That said, they are very close to one another and if you lived in Sherman Oaks you could be close to the 405/101 interchange which would be good for your commute to Simi valley.

Nightlife suggestions for Studio City:

-Firefly: lounge/restaurant on Ventura Blvd. No sign outside but look for ivy covered building. This is a high-end lounge with indoor and outdoor bars. Very nice place for a cocktail or meal. George Clooney is a co-owner and has been known to show up for drinks once in a while.

-Clear: small intimate lounge on Ventura Blvd with a Hollywood vibe but no velvet rope B.S. you get in Hollywood. D.J. spins tunes on Fri and Sat nights.

-Mama Juanas: very classy Salsa dance club with good food and excellent LIVE salsa bands. Free salsa lessons on Sat. nights. Located at 3737 Cahuenga Blvd (near Lankershim).

-Rumba Room: Located in Universal CityWalk. Not a big fan of citywalk but this club does offer some very GOOD LIVE Salsa on Sunday nights.

-Mexicali: Mexican restaurant on Ventura Blvd. with decent bar scene. Good for after work happy hour or meal.

As for Sherman Oaks, not as many nightlife optons but the area on Ventura Blvd. between Van Nuys Blvd. and Kester is a cool area to hang out with restaurants and shops.

I don't think you're going to find what you are looking for, you may as well live next to work.

Thanks everybody for your comments.....This is so helpful....I think I'll start looking around Sherman Oaks and Studio City....probably, more Sherman Oaks than Studio City....and both these areas are closer to my work....
As you guys said Sherman Oaks south of Ventura Blvd should be a nice neighborhood.....I drove from work to Sherman Oaks and there wasn't traffic....
thanks again for your advice....you guys are so helpful
Kate

P.S. by the way, I can't really come to work with bike as I'm wearing skirt and high heels mostly to work!!!

If you are a city person Studio City will give you the best overall vibe. Other places you can achieve this are going to be a horrible commute (e.g. are all over the the hill).
