I don't know if anyone here makes that commute. I'd suggest peaking at sigalert.com at 6am through the following hour or so to figure your commute out. Of course, the 101 and 405 where you're going are 2 of the worst freeways in the world, so I'd expect a poor commute.

Are you looking to move to Thousand Oaks? Or live there and scoring a job in Torrance?

at 6am traffic SHOULD be moving ok, but you never know considering you'll have to drive through the 101/405 transition, the westside, and LAX. your drive home would be completely different story though (unless you leave the office before 2pm), i would expect to be stuck in traffic the whole way.

With all of the rail proposals in place for expansions of the Metro system, Metrolink lines, etc, I've never understood why there has never been any serious consideration for a 405 commuter rail considering the 405 is the busiest and most congested freeway in the nation. We'll build low ridership Gold Line bridge to nowhere expansions at the cost of tens of millions of tax payer dollars and sales tax increases for a mile or two of track, but won't build a line on the busiest freeway in the nation? Criminal stupidity

It is kind of a unique situation for me. I will be staying in Thousand Oaks for on Sunday night for a job interview on Monday and my girlfriend works in Torrance so we're trying to figure out how bad her commute will be if she stays with me Sunday night. If I get the job and we decide to move in together we will need to find a place somewhere in between Thousand Oaks and Torrance until she can find a better job. Any suggestions?

You should be able to go top speed most of the way if you leave TO by 6AM. It will back up a little on the 101 to 405 transition and also going up the Sepulveda Pass. Once you are at the top it is very fast the rest of the way. So, one hour sounds about right - of course it depends where in Thousand Oaks? Dos Vientos? Near Westlake? Wildwood? Being far west or north adds 10 minutes right there.

If you leave Torrance by 3ish, you should go really fast 405 northbound until just before the 10 freeway, then it is really slow to past Sunset. It "speeds" up a little going up the Sepulveda Pass to maybe 40, then it is pretty fast the rest of the way. Probably 1:15 to 1:30 to get home. Sometimes you can get around some of the northbound 405 traffic by exiting at National and taking Sepulveda north for about four miles and getting back on the 405.
