Although I wasn't born or raised in Vermont, I have lived here for 12 years and I can give you my definition of what a real Vermonter is.

If you spend alot of time each summer "putting up your wood" then you're a Vermonter. If you wave in a friendly fashion to another motorist albeit a stranger, going in the opposite direction on a dirt road then you're a Vermonter. If you're happy to help someone you don't know when you see they've got vehicular problems in the middle of the night on a road that's not lit, you're a Vermonter. When you carry a chain saw and a come along in your truck "just in case" you're a Vermonter.

We're fiercely independent and honest citizens. I hope you enjoy being a resident of this beautiful and unique state. As for what you call yourself, I dunno but I have always been proud to call myself a Vermonter regardless of where I was born or raised.

I NEED TO MOVE!!!!
Being also a native NYC person I agree the smell of manure here is actually pleasant compared to the smell of NYC sidewalk manure amongst the the other odors of NYC.

According to native Vermonters ONLY native Vermonters are true Vermonters.
Anyone not born and raised in VT is a flatlander.

Once you've been here a while you can pick out the "tourists" or "flatlanders", that is when i considered myself a true Vermonter.

Once grocery shopping becomes a social event, THEN you are a true Vermonter, IMO.

LOL do true vermonters have Texas accents?
