How often do home values get re-assessed for property taxes [town of Danville]?
Thanks

Most towns are reaccessed every five years or so. It really depends on the real estate market. The town grand list should be an accurate for tax purposes.
Our town has experienced a pretty sharp decline in real estate prices since the last assessment was done in 2006 but I doubt they'll do another one anytime soon. Even if they did, they would just raise the tax rate to make up for the loss in real estate value (the higher the value the lower the tax rate, the lower the value the higher the tax rate, to collect the same amount of money).
So if you're hoping that having a lower town-assessed property value will reduce your taxes, it will not. The only way to achieve that would be for your town to cut spending.

It does depend on the town. Where I own property in central Vermont an assessment has not been done for close to twenty years (or more). Our home in Colchester has not been done in about fifteen years. We did get a notice about six months ago that an assessment would be done with an appointment, but we have not heard anything since.
