Vermont farmer crushes 7 police cars with tractor over pot arrest | The Raw Story

Well this is a strange retaliation with heavy consequences, though marijuana prohibition was what initially provoked him. Thoughts?

It is a little out of the ordinary, isn't it? I can't tell you the last time Newport made national headlines, but it's on CNN. I drove by there yesterday afternoon and the surviving police cars were all in front of the station with their lights flashing. Today it was the talk of the town at the supermarkets I service in Derby. Some folks think he's a hero. Most, however, realize the severity of his acts. I heard from more than one person that Mr. Pion is mentally unstable, but I'm not presenting that as fact.

Thus always to tyrants. I wouldn't convict him if I were on the jury.

From what I hear he was arrested for pot and harassed by the cops over a simple marijuana possession last month. Notice the resisting arrest charge as well.

I wouldn't convict him either. 250k+ in damages but only a 15k bond. I guarantee he gets no jail time for this. He made national headlines and is some what of a hero and has facebook page dedicated to him. There is even a fund started for his defense.

What I want to know is how the cops were inside the police station and had no idea this was going on. He even got almost 2 miles down the road before the Newport police caught up with him. He really made a fool of the Orleans County Sheriff's dept... It seems they were all just sitting inside the station in the a/c.

"Orleans County sheriff's deputies working inside their building on Thursday didn't know what was happening until a neighbor called 911. They didn't hear the ruckus outside because their air conditioners were humming."

When police ran outside, the tractor was already down the driveway and out onto the road. Police said they couldn't pursue the man because their cars were crushed.
"We had nothing to pursue him with," said Chief Deputy Philip Brooks

While costly, no one got hurt, so I find the whole thing slightly amusing. I wouldn't doubt he was a little unstable, I mean the whole act is a little unstable....

You never know, some of the local PD there may have overstepped their bounds with some harrassment, you never know. If so, I find it an interesting retalliation.

Roger Pion, Vt. man accused of crushing cop cars with farm tractor, due in court - Crimesider - CBS News

When police ran outside, the tractor was already down the driveway and out onto the road. Police said they couldn't pursue the man because their cars were crushed.
"We had nothing to pursue him with," said Chief Deputy Philip Brooks
I also wonder why the police were inside, instead of outside patrolling the area. It's not like no crime goes on in Newport.

This guy seems like a loose cannon. I'm glad he decided to go after cruisers and not minivans or some other civilian vehicle. People could have gotten killed.

In all honesty, that would have been an even better approach.....no real damage to property other than cleanup......I can see doing a few laps around the barracks spreading/covering the area with stink......probably get in a lot less trouble than crushing thousands of $ of cruisers.

remember the Andy Griffith Show?

picture Ernest T. Bass on a giant tractor waving goodbye to a bunch of Barney Fifes running out of the building, with sleep in their eyes after their two hour naps.

and that's what you get when you bust someone for something as harmless as pot
