Our destinations are not even close to being affordable out of Burlington. The tickets are about 200-400 more per ticket and it's still cheaper to take the bus from NH. We fly typically with a minimum of 4 people. Every flight internationally we have from Boston has gone straight overseas. The number of people we travel with and the number of time we go overseas in an average year, we shop around. If you are looking at cost, The way to travel is how I described. This past August we saved so much flying out of Boston, we spent an extra day overseas we opted for and overnight layover and stayed in Paris and spent the night in Boston. Prices always vary, this is why we always price shop. Flying out of Burlington always adds up to about 1000-2000 more dollars for our family.

I always use to fly out of Montreal direct to Europe. I wanted to try the A380 and booked BTV-JFK-CDG in 2009. BTV-JFK (DL) got canceled 24 hours prior due to reports of a snowstorm. We went to BTV very early to see what they could do. "Because its weather, we can't help you". We said that we'd risk it and take the drive to NYC from BTV. The agent just laughed at us. Well, that flight left (delayed). On the way home, once again, JFK-BTV leg got canceled! It wasn't due to weather but it was due to shortage of crew. We were able to get rebooked on JFK-YUL, though.

When I travel to the SE part of the state, I fly to Hartford. It's closer by about 30-40 minutes than Boston.

I just did a search for Rutland flights. They are surprisingly affordable. I'd go that route for the less hectic airport.

Lots of people do fly out of Burlington. When I'm flying somewhere in addition to Burlington and Logan I check Albany and Manchester. For some reason I don't usually check Hartford, but that's another option.
