How about the summer? Do I need an A/C? I found no A/C is installed in most of the apartments there.

Thread title is "Do I need an A/C in winter?" No, but possibly in summer.

There are many summer nights when having A/C is the only possible way my husband and I can sleep. We work from home, and A/C is also necessary on some summer days.

I live in Rutland, so temps vary some from Burlington, but not that much.

Summer? Depends on your tolerance level. We have a window unit in one of our bedrooms that we run in the evening before bed to cool the room off. Then we shut it off and open up the windows and we can get a nice breeze.

We've never had air conditioning in our home in Montpelier, but we do have some hot nights when we use a fan.

At my office we have air conditioners and I probably have 5-10 work days each summer that I turn mine on for at least part of the day.

Well, I woke up to zero degrees this morning. A heat wave. I turned the ac I don't have to 50 below to avoid heat stroke.

In summer I just crawl in the cellar if it hits the 80's or 90's or go up to the mountains somewhere where the trees are dense.

pretty interesting, we are so used to sleeping in the cold... when we are back in NJ the thermostat dips lower than ever. When it hits 60F inside i open the windows at night. I wonder how this will affect me in the heat though?? What i hate most about sleeping in the heat is humid stickyness.

I know our condo assoc doesnt allow ACs... so that solves that. I think we'll be OK with windows open and fans.

I'll tell ya, as the years have passed, now I feel like we need AC more and more. Our condo is made of concrete and is very high in elevation, which keeps it cool for the most part, but there have definitely been days/nights when I wish we had AC.

Well, I just learned something. I didn't know that condo associations nix the AC, but then I've lived a sheltered life. I'm trying to think of the reason(s) behind that and not coming up with anything.

Anyway, as we too have aged a little we like a cool bedroom on those uncomfortable nights so we keep a window unit going. Got one in the LR too. Spoiled, ain't we?

Go to a crowded cinema on a winter night and chances are the AC will be running a few times. I used to do that when I managed one. It heats up like a cattle barn when you put 200 people in a tight place.

For hot humid nights I don't have A/C but I have a very close relationship with a couple of large fans.

I think it might technically just be a ban on window units... i didn't pay that much attention to it when i was readin the rulebook! but I dont know anyone who has central air or a mini split either. I might not mind a mini split, we'll see.
