From all of the Black/African Americans that I have met, come to know and spoken with in other states where we have lived ie: WV and NC, when they have asked me where I am from and I told them "Vermont" one response seemed to be most common amongst them "It's too damn cold up there"!!

I've heard that same sentiment from a rainbow of people. Factor in the lack of good paying, steady employment. Those two things probably deter a fair number of people of any color.

People down South are telling me I'm crazy to move there, that there's nothing there (but nobody has ever BEEN THERE, actually most New Orleans natives haven't been anywhere but TX, MS, FL because of hurricanes), while Northerners tell me that I will love it, that is so beautiful, etc.

A little Vermont history lesson here. Vermont outlawed slavery in 1777 when it broke away from New York to become a republic. When it became a state in 1791, a slavery ban was written in the state constitution. Vermont was also a stop on the Underground Railroad.

The now-defunct grocer Grand Union (which was primarily concentrated in both large Northern cities and small Southern towns) I would think promoted at least a few African Americans to VT.

Its all relative...their are black people that live in Vermont however they they often flee the state after getting a good feel for the downside of vt. Go to church street.

It is a little more complicated than that. IIRC there was an age limitation on slaves in Vermont, and in one notable instance that was more or less ignored. Also, INDIVIDUALS and GROUPS created stops on the Underground Railroad, not the state. Overall, Vermont comes across as somewhat less tainted by the slavery issue, but it doesn't get off scott free.

Perhaps they don't want to live among Jews, hipsters, gays, etc? African Americans are just not as adventurous as any of those three groups.
