After graduating from Middlebury College 12 years ago, and the past five summers at my in-laws place near Woodstock, my wife and I have decided to begin planning to move from Austin to Vermont permanently. We love the region, values, people, and of course, it's a beautiful place. We really want our newborn daughter to grow up there.

I am a high school engineering/architecture teacher and am also certified to teach journalism (...liberal arts education for you). My wife is an engineering and industrial design consultant that works mostly from home. (relative) Proximity to NYC and Boston are another plus for my wife's job.

This spring I will begin looking for a teaching position. I know teaching jobs are very competitive in VT, my teaching field is narrow, and due to the teaching hiring cycle I know it might be a challenge to find what I am looking for and could even take a few years. The plus side is that openings in my teaching field usually have few qualified applicants and I have a great job now.
I have received a little advice and opinions about school districts in Vermont, mostly Woodstock area, from local friends and was wanting to extend my pool of such input.
Any personal experience or knowledge of great school districts with outstanding reputations to look into or avoid anywhere in Vermont that will help guide me on where to focus my search is appreciated.
We are open to nearly all of Vermont and W. NH, but.... if we could pick.... The areas of Middlebury, St. J, or Woodstock are our first choices. St. Albans area and Burlington suburbs are also high on our list.

Contracts generally go out and are due back in April, so you're coming up on the hiring season. If you haven't done so already, make a habit of searching School Spring. It is used very heavily in Vermont, so it's possibly the best source for education jobs here.
