I felt so bad so I found a box to put him in. I went online to find out if I could let him free during the day or wait until evening. I put him on the porch and he climbed on the railing. He looked around a bit and flew away.

My neighbor said he has seen a few bats by his house but my husband and I haven't found any flying around the barn yet. Maybe tonight.
And last night I saw at least three bats!

A couple of years ago, we had a bat on our porch who didn't take off with the rest of the bats when it got cold. He just slept in the corner. I poked it to see if it was alive and it did move. It was down to the low thirties at the time, and the next couple of nights were supposed to get down to the low teens. Very dangerous for bats. I checked a few bat sites on the web which offered names of those who would help with bat problems. I spoke to a woman who lived in Bennington (I live near Burlington), and she offered to come and get the bat since she had a sanctuary in her home. I didn't want her to make such a long drive, so I pushed the bat a couple of times with a broom. It eventually moved around and flew away.

It was nice to know that someone was willing to make such a long drive to save a creature.
