I can't believe we have mosquitoes already, considering how dry it has been.
Even todays little bit of rain seems to have brought out the may flies. Ugh, long winter right into bug season. We've had a couple of bats live on our property during spring and summer since we've been here. I haven't seen them yet and I'm worried about them. Not sure if you've heard, but thousands of bats have died in caves in Vt and NY over the winter due to some mysterious fungus. Very sad, they are actually cute little fellas. Not to mention they eat thousands of my bugs every night. Life could be a lot different for all of us without them. I'm a little worried but I think it's a bit early so I won't panic yet. My wife and I enjoy sitting on our porch and watching them swoop for skeeters. It's a good feeling.

We haven't seen them flying around our barn yet. I'm not going to think the worst at this point. It may be early. I am going to make it a point to go out to the barn tonight and look for them. I'll let you know if I see them.

Here, at the Canadian border, I've been seeing several bats around my home for about a week now. I guess I've kept a closer eye out for them this year, due to the news stories.

I could have sworn I saw a few last night around 8:30 while walking my puppy. I was like "Ew, not already..." (I know they are good for eating bugs but they still freak me out.)

I'm happy to report that I saw at least one bat last night, possibly two. That really made my night. Not only do I want them killing bugs, but I've grown quite fond of them. We've had a few sleep on a log on our porch and they are really quite cute.

The bats have been out in large numbers in downtown Burlington the past 2 weeks.

I like them too. When I first moved up here a bat found its way into my house. I flew out the front door. I opened the door in hopes that he would find his way out but he didn't. I just saw him flying back and forth. I then realized I forgot to shut off the ceiling fan and ran back into the house. The poor little fellow was laying on the floor wiggling around. I felt so bad so I found a box to put him in. I went online to find out if I could let him free during the day or wait until evening. I put him on the porch and he climbed on the railing. He looked around a bit and flew away.

My neighbor said he has seen a few bats by his house but my husband and I haven't found any flying around the barn yet. Maybe tonight.
