I am wondering what the scoop is on Ben & Jerry's. Our family is planning a trip next week and our thoughts were a factory tour. The "boys" (DH 3#, 11, 10 & 7) were thinking about taking on the Vermonster. Anyone have any recommendations for our trip? Thanks!

It's a good way to kill an hour. It's your typical kitchy tourist trap. Take the tour it's only a couple bucks. The tackle the Vermonster. Try to go mid-week if you can. It's busy on weekends.
If you want to eat ice cream like a Vermonter, you'll need to seek out a creemee stand. Thats where we all go

Nothing beats a creemee stand. There's one on 103 in NH about halfway between 91 & 120 which is awesome. Also there's the Four Corners stand at 106 & 131 (east of Cavendish) which is great, too.

But as a former tourist, I have to admit a trip to Ben and Jerry's is required when there are kids in tow.

A trip to the grocery store and $20s later we are taste testing five different B&J's pints. DH is lovin' the Chubby Hubby! I am more of a seafood kinda gal...Phish Food all the way. The boys are downing Fudge Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Doh, and Half Baked. Can't wait to check out the factory. So... a creamee is a must. Is this a soft serve style treat? Details please

Arrrrrrgh! Ben $ Js use gums in their iteration of "ice cream" clones. NO self respecting dairy person would dream of using such adulterants. Creemees are soft custards - cream, milk, eggs, sugar, and flavorings. Real creemees, like you can no longer get, use unpasturized ingredients.

The sad fact is that the Keith Wallace farm sits about a few thousand feet away from the B&J factory. Keith was one of the last dairymen of the old school, and a Vermont icon.

Hi, I was born and raised in Vermont...I raised two boys who are now full grown.....Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury Vermont can be a fun place to go see...they use to give out free ice cream..Ben & Jerry's is still considered one of the best ice creams in Vermont........ I think your boys are perfect ages to learn about the history and how they make ice cream in large quantities........any questions......ask away......

Thanks for the low down on B&J's and the creemees! We will be staying for a couple of days so we will definately seek out a creemee stand. Any close to WRJ / Windsor area?

I'm not familiar with that area. Maybe someone else can step up to the plate (or cone)?

Any Creemee places in the Brattleboro area? I will be there next month (lived there for 2 years) and have never seen one of these "Creemee" places around.

I am not certain how close in miles/minutes to Windsor this would be, but it is a couple of miles off I-91 exit 8. It's NH on 103 about halfway between 91 & 120. It'll be on your right as you head toward Claremont.

There's picnic tables outside by the river.

The 'tot' size cone is fairly large. My son had ordered a large and was given something totally insane. *NOTE: We think the waitress thought he was cute -- lol
