10) You know the true meaning of "You can't get there from here".

9) You laugh when someone asks if there is a McDonalds in Montpelier.

8) You pronounce "Newport" "Newpaht".

7) You can get someone anywhere in the state without knowing the names of the streets.

6) When you call the "Sunday Morning Radio Flea Market" on WOKO from the barn while milking cows.

5) Seeing a moose just doesn't faze you anymore.

4) You know what a Frost Heave is.

3) It is a highway, not a flipping freeway!!!!!!!!

2) When you consider it odd to see a driveway that is actually paved.

And the number one way you know you are from Vermont is..............

You know the an animal not only by sight, but by the smell of its dung.

Love it...

Can I add a few more?

**You probably work in travel/tourism or know someone who does
** You probably make a very low salary compared to people in other states who do the same job...

Those all were pretty easy. Here's a baker's dozen off the top of my head.

You consider anyone who lives within twenty miles of the lake (is there any other?) as a flatlander.

You know Holsteins from Gurnseys from Jerseys, AND you know which gives the most butterfat AND which has the meanest bulls.

You know how to sheet syrup and how to use pork rind. You were taught before you went to first grade.

You've climbed at least two of the these just for fun; Mansfield, Camels Hump, Jay Peak, Ascutny - extra points for Hunger Mtn.

You took skiing in high school or grade school, partly to make out on the bus.

You not only know about yellow snow, you've made it.

You know the temperature by the sound of the snow, or by how big the flakes are when it falls.

You have a blue coat that you never wash and always wear to the barn, and your wife understands why, and never threatens to wash it. (This is serious business.)

The snowplows now miss your mailbox. Intentionally. (That frozen pile of gravel did the trick ten years back.)

You can walk through a pasture without looking down and not step in cow**** OR you have rubber boots and don't care.

You remember when going to the dump was a social event.

Your parka is considered formal wear.

Your dog has been stuck in a snowdrift.

You spend time in July starting to calculate BTU and cost rates on anything and everything that will burn because the first frost might very well be only 60 days away.

You not only leave your doors unlocked - you don't even have keys for them.

You have always been honest with the cash box at an unattended farm stand.

You wear boots every day of the year.

You have numerous bird feeders around the yard.

You drive a winter beater in season.

You don't care about VPR's digital radio signal.

Losing power does not constitute an emergency.

You compost.

You have a farmer's tan.

The only reason you purchase bottled water is to keep the bottle for refills from your own tap.

We stayed in a Vermont B&B a couple of weeks ago, and the lady that owns it told us that she'd give us a key to our room if she had one, but she doesn't know where it went. The front door is open at all times, so we should just let ourselves in whatever time we get back. We weren't concerned in the least.

This thread is good reading!
