After last winter, I hope this year isn't as rough.

Has anyone heard or read anything (Old Farmer's Almanac or anything?)

Are 2 bad winters in a row common in this area?

Maybe it's me but it seems mild (right now) compared to last December.

I know they predicted NY was supposed to get a pretty cold/snowy winter (I'll believe it when I see it).

Last winter was awesome in Vermont! Obviously, you don't share my opinion.

Worst in what way? I didnt find last winter overly cold-I don't remember going a week or 2 straight at below zero temps. We did get a lot of snow.
Obviously we all have different tolerances for winter weather . The best part about winter is getting out and enjoying it whether it be skiing, snowshoeing, sledding/sliding, skating, etc. The worst part? IMO the gray sunless days.

Yeah, I remember a few years back where there were several weeks of below zero temps...now THAT would be hard to take. But I also thought last winter was relatively mild temp wise...just a lot of snow!

Hey Gypsy, don't worry, soon you'll be USED to the cold!!!

Well, weather predictions are like opinions, everybody has one. From data I have reviewed, some it related to my job, some computer models forecast December to be colder than normal, but the later half of winter should be milder for northern New England. It's going to be a flip of the coin. So far this year we are only slightly warmer than normal based upon heating degree day measure. If you think last winter was bad, well, it was warmer than average, just snowier than the norm. Irregardless of what the thermometer says, Vermont cold comes in October and will run through April. This brief warmup over the past week is just a teaser, but nice if nothing else to save on heating. My dirt road resembles mud season right now.

Actually I think it was colder and windier in NY than here (downstate NY we'd get the searbreeze). Of course VT gets more snow.

Last year on New Year's Eve we were outside playing on a mound of snow in our yard without coats!!! It was so warm.

I am used to the snow. I just think this year has been warmer than last year so far.
Thanks for the replies.

Last two winters weren't that bad.
I fear we are in for a good cold one.

"Supposed to be" cold, with a lot of snow.
