We'll be coming up in February.
Are there any special things going on Feb 12 thru 16? Hope to do some sleding and are having some friends take us snowmobiling. But are there any special local events around that time?

Winter Carnival

The 85th ski jump at Harris Hill will be taking place on Feb 14 & 15 in Brattleboro. They stopped jumping in 2005 to undertake a complete overhaul of the hill. I drove by it the other day and it looks awesome! Those jumpers should be flying!!!

Default Come up to Waterbury and Stowe for a day

Just take I-89 South to Waterbury (Exit 10). Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has a visitors center at the train station on Main Street where you can grab a cup of coffee and a snack and see an interactive display about --- what else--- coffee.

Then take Route 100 N about three miles to Ben and Jerry's for a factory tour. The tour only costs about $2 for kids, $4 for adults and includes a film, a tour of the production area, and samples of the two "flavors of the day."

Afterwards, hop back onto Route 100 North and take that to Stowe (about 10 miles). If you like skiing, you can visit the Vermont Ski Museum in Stowe village. There are also a visitor's center where you can pick up brochures and some shops including a book store (Bear Pond Books) and a place where the kids can fill a bag with penny candy (Stowe Mercantile).

For lunch there are several options, but I'd take the kids to McCarthy's on the Mountain Road (Route 108). It's a great breakfast/lunch restaurant where you can order anything from pancakes to breakfast burritos to sandwiches, soups and salads.

From there I'd visit Trapp Family Lodge. It's run by decendents of the von Trapp family from the Sound of Music. The mountain views are amazing and there's a cross country touring center where you could rent snowshoes for the family and enjoy some outdoor time.

Afterwards, you could always head up to Stowe Mountain Resort to watch the skiers and snowboarders. They have a new base lodge where you could grab some hot cocoa or coffee.

If you want to take the kids for a special treat, there's a sleigh riding place on the way down the Mountain Road across from Top Notch resort. The lady who runs it is a real character, her rates are reasonable, the horses are beautiful and she takes you through the meadows and woods and along a river so there are some great photo opportunities.

Feel free to send me a direct message if you have any questions.
