Where would you go if you left Vermont?

I guess it depends on why you would be leaving. If you're tired of the cold winters, then I guess you'd go where it is warmer. If you need a better paying job, you'd go somewhere where the jobs are. If you can't afford to retire in Vermont, you'd go where retirement is more affordable. If you have family reasons for leaving, then that would dictate pretty much where you would go. Etc. Etc.

Me? I have no idea. The places that are familiar I am not interested in living in, and the places that are unfamiliar are complete unknowns.

No, I'm not planning my exit from Vermont. So far, I like living here.

With that new terrorist plot in NYC, for one thing, I'm glad I'm here and no longer there.

Funny, SW Colorado would make my list, too. We're not leaving Vermont but I'll play:

Durango, CO
Bainbridge Island, WA
Portland, ME
Quebec City environs
Vancouver Island, BC
Kanab, Utah (to be part of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary community)

Would want to check out Guelph, Ontario

LOL! We want to remain here but have these lingering fantasies about other places. Maybe we should try home swaps with residents of those areas.

why does everyone love Portland, ME?! I've heard it was an up-and-coming city for a few years now, even before the economic recession. What makes it so special? and how does the weather in Maine compare to that of Vermont?

I worked there for 3 months one winter. Lived in the city and almost never drove my car. I enjoyed the vibe, the very walkable city, and all the cultural and culinary offerings.

I thought the weather was awful. It was cooler than Vermont in the summer but way too sticky. It was warmer than Vermont in the winter but way too damp. Most uncomfortable.
