With the bee population in serious jeopardy of being extinct, I am envisioning that honey will become too expensive or just disappear. Maple syrup will take its place. Any publically traded companies in Vermont that deal with maple syrup? Does anyone in Vermont even know that Wall Street controls what will happen with maple syrup?

Actually the maple syrup industy is more in the hands of global warming, will there be syrup and at what price? think twice.

Honey can be and is easily adulterated with high fructose corn syrup 55. The mix of sugars is very similar. Maple has an entirely different flavor and is unlikely to be considered a replacement.

I actually had a discussion with a beekeeper last year in VT about the colony collapse disorder and how it would affect his bees - he said that the bees they use for honey are different than the ones used commercially to pollinate crops...

I think the lack of honey is the least of the problems with colony collapse. The loss of our food supply is numero uno.

Honey is a very small part of the sweetners we use today. My kids hate the taste which is fine with me meaning it's one of the few things in the fridge that disppear quickly.

Unfortuantely, if honey production does go down it can be replaced by corn or cane sugar. The price of corn has skyrocketed BTW. If it does lead to an increase in maple sugar use the big daddy on the block as far as maple syrup production is our neighbor to the north, Quebec.

Well, you have to add west nile virus and bird flu, so you have bats, bees, birds...
and the bonobos are none too healthy :: Bonobo Conservation Initiative :: so if I were a buffalo, I'd be worried.

Bats and bees, birds. A common denominator could be the recent insecticides designed to replace the older effective ones. It certainly bears study.

I think that by the time bees go extinct so will the sugar maples to global warming. Just look at some of the more recent years. Production has been down due to the climate.

Global Warming doesn't exist. a myth, the left wing gov't sponsored media wants the public to believe......

but, maple syrup is more expensive then crude oil...interesting.....
