Committed suicide after having to lay off employees at the chapel. Anyone who loves dogs is tops in my book. It hit me especially hard because I found out, on the same day, our dog is now facing a serious fight herself.

Vermont folk artist Stephen Huneck, 'dog chapel' founder, dies | Entertainment - MassLive.com -

You are so right and I can't remember the last time I got teary eyed over the news. What a delightful place to remember our "furry best friends" and it was visited by people worldwide. He had a really big heart...........

So sad. He created something so unique for our Furry Pals, what a sad ending.

Quickdraw, hope your Dog will be ok, wishing all the best for you.
Been through some tough times with Pets ourselves, never an easy thing.

So sad..that's really horrible. I know they had closed his gallery in Stowe this past fall, I guess that was the first sign...loved going in there and checking stuff out.

Quickdraw, best wishes for your dog and your family...

This sucks. My wife and I had been meaning to get to his chapel one of these days as our cabin is nearby and ironically I grew up in Sudbury MA where he was from. So this really just bites……….

I hope they are able to carry on his work and “keep the spirit alive” as they say…………

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Very, very sorry.

I agree: I admire all who dedicate energy to helping nonhuman beings. I always enjoyed the Woodstock store. I kept putting off the drive to Dog Mountain. Now I wish we'd gone.

Quickdraw -- my heart goes out to your furbaby and you.
To the Huneck family -- my heartfelt condolences.

I have yet to make it to dog mountain; the usual 'not enough time' reason. Hopefully Mr. Huneck's family will find a way to keep it open.

I love Stephen Huneck's work: the simplicity of the woodcuts captured true labrador joy.

This is so sad. It puts a real face on the recession. It's not just about having money to buy a pizza or another cd for your computer; it's about real people who simply feel like that they cannot carry on for one more day being in pain.

I'm sorry about your dog, quickdraw. I hope she turns out to be okay.

I'm so so sad that this happened. Storm and my husband met Mr. Hunick along with Sally at Dog Fest and Mr. Hunick commented what a good looking dog Storm was Dog Fest was like a magical day for the three of us. I am so sad about this just so sad
