Go to FL for vacation. The weathers nice and certain scenery is beautiful".......
BUT, going out to dinner anywhere is a project. The traffic is heavy, parking a premium, and an hour wait is normal. 3 shark attacks in the last few days mean, i'm poolside, (too many Jaws films). I'm not a golfer, nor love condo living, and i'm missing the backroad walks with the dog.
Vermont is more expensive but the more relaxed lifestyle is something we sometimes take for granted. Nice to get reminded once and awhile.

Try the panhandle. And if you're a dog lover, try Carabelle. Miles of white sand, fantastic sunsets. No jetskiiers, just a lot of folks fishing and dogs running on the beach. OK you may not be able to find many places to go to eat dinner, but you can always grill your own fish. No golf courses but the sight of the sun setting over the Gulf rivals the beauty of the Green Mountains in my book.

Sounds wonderful! We're in Boca visiting parents. Spending time outside stores on the husband benches.
Drivers here love their horns, only occasionally stop for pedestrians, and fighting over parking seems to be the state sport.

Trust me. After living in bigger cities I deeply understand the value of living in a more rural location. Most prefer one over the other.

Yikes Boca is not my thing. My father lived in Ft Lauderdale until his death a couple of years ago. Not for love nor money would I want to live there.

Parts of the Keys are nice too if you want laid back and relaxed. I'd recommend Cudjoe. Darn that I didn't get one of those Key Deer t-shirts that say "How the heck did they get here?" while we did a sailing vacation there a few years ago.

I also despise the sun angle in Florida. It's just way too intense and feels like it is burning a hole through your head, even with a hat on. Just a small reason why I prefer the northern sun angle...

I'm down in FL for about 10 days. It's nice to see the sun and jhave everything be green, but when the 10 days are up I'm ready to head home.

Just once, I thought about taking a southern vacation in winter when temps just wouldn't get above zero. Didn't do it and don't remember why. Still haven't done it and I guess I'm saving it for old age. Loosely translated: I just like it here.

The weather is nice and i'm sure, as frugal yankee pointed out, there are much better spots to vacation at in FL. I'm sure there are some very nice people here but in the week I've been here I've been amazed at the people fighting over parking, honking horns, being rude or pushy at stores and restaurants, and driving like it's NASCAR. For a state filled with retirees, they all seem to be in a hurry.
Wouldn't be my idea of a stress free retirement spot for sure.
