I have a basic HP 2009 desktop computer and I am interested in ordering a game from 2000 called Half-life. Im not a computer whiz at all and by that I mean that I know little to nothing about computers besides how to surf the web. I thought that I would surely be able to play a game as old as that without having to upgrade my computer but you never know. I mean Im not trying to play Crysis here so why wouldnt I be able to play a game with PS-one era visuals?

Probably the graphics wouldn't be an issue with an older game like that, but maybe your operating system is.
See what o/s Half Life was designed for - Windows 2000?
See what o/s your new system has.
They may or may not play together well. Probably will if you still have XP.

Half Life came out in 1998. The game during that year doesn't have great graphics to begin with. I've played it on a computer with Widows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

If you do buy it you'll have to register it on Welcome to Steam and play through Steam.

System Requirements:

Minimum: 500 mhz processor, 96mb ram, 16mb video card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: 800 mhz processor, 128mb ram, 32mb+ video card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

*info from the Steam Store.

You shouldn't have any issues, I'm running Windows 7 x64 (which replaced Server 2008 x64) and HL runs with no problems on my box.

Yeah, you shouldn't have any problems...I play SimCity 4 (came out in Jan 03) on my Windows 7 computer with no problems.

You might have to run it in 'compatibility mode', but other than that it should be fine.
