Is the motion plus controller required to play this or just optional?

12 hours into the game and finding it very good, the usual Zelda adventurer wont be disappointed,
Just one criticism, its heavy on the cut scenes, some of which go on for some time..

I'm probably halfway through the game so far and I've been enjoying it a lot. The beginning drags, but once you really get into the story it gets MUCH better. Besides the beginning, the only other complaint I have right now is that the motion controls are not always spot on (especially when trying to swing from right to left) ,and the control aspect of flying isn't as good as I thought it would be. I think it would have been a lot better if you controlled the bird with the analog stick. Definitely takes a little bit of getting used to.

I've spent too many hours today in Farron Woods trying to find 3 Kiwglies , No luck so far. the tracking device (Dowser) seems to indicate i'm right on top of them but if they are up in a tree i have no idea how to get them down.

I spent a few hours looking for them too.

Spoiler

Running from memory here so details may not be 100% accurate.

First one, from the elder platform you'll see a tree with a tunnel you can crawl under. Follow that until you get to open area and fight off some goblins. There will be one stuck in a tree. Use a rolling attack at the tree to get the guy to fall out.

Don't remember the exact location of the 2nd one, but he is hiding in a tall grass/weed area(the kind you can clear with your sword). Clear the whole patch so just the guy is remaining, he'll reveal himself once all his hiding grass is gone.

Third is roughly southwestish of that temple/lookout structure. Again, he is disguised as a patch of grass, whack him with your sword and he'll reveal himself.
